What makes a draughtsman chair
A draughtsman (or drafting) chair is a work chair on a taller gas lift with a ring to rest your feet on, so you can sit at a high desk, a counter or a lab bench without your feet dangling. On the Factory Chair, a static high-rise draughtsman kit lifts the seat to a maximum of about 800mm.
Fixed or adjustable foot ring
A fixed foot ring stays at one height. An adjustable ring moves up and down the column, which helps when people of different heights share the chair. The Factory Chair and the Concept Mid-Back come with either.
Converting a chair you already have
The Hi-Rise draughting kits fit fixed back chairs and come with all the fixings and a set of glides. The maker's advice is clear: never fit a draughting kit to a chair that tilts or still has castors.

Delivery is free to most UK postcodes. Items marked Next Day Delivery arrive the next working day when you order before the cut-off on the product page, subject to stock and courier availability. There is a charge for the Scottish Highlands and islands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, the Scilly Isles, the Channel Islands and a short list of other postcodes, so please call us before ordering to one of them.
Changed your mind? Our returns policy gives you 30 days from delivery to send back anything unused, unassembled and in its original packaging. We collect it, and the collection charge is taken from your refund; business customers pay a 15% restocking fee as well.

It can if it lowers far enough for your knees to fit under the desk, but a standard office chair is made for that height. A drafting chair is built for higher surfaces.
